Cat Body Language
Just as humans have body language, there are various method cats have for telling us how they are feeling. By observing your cat’s body language, you can learn to understand what she is trying to tell you. In this photo Tikki was getting annoyed with the flash on the camera and let me know it by the laid back ears.
Tail Talk:
The tail straight up means your cat is happy.
If it is all ‘fluffed out’, be wary as your cat is angry.
A wagging tail means ‘keep your distance’.
If the tail is hanging low, she is unhappy about something.
Eyes:
Like with humans, half closed eyes means she is tired or sleepy.
Pupils very narrow in a slit shows a happy, confident cat.
Watching you carefully with wide open eyes shows she is paying attention.
If she tries to out-stare you she is offering a challenge.
Blinking often means contentment with you and life.
Ears:
Straight up is the same as with the tail – she is happy and ready for a game.
Flattened back is a definite warning that she is angry about something so be careful.
If they are pointing downward she is worried about something and self-protective.
Sometimes the ears seem to point out sideways – this means she’s playful or inquisitive.
The more time you can spend with your cat learning her signals, the better the bonding and the stronger the relationship between you both.
